Club Update

Hi All
Quick update with the latest goings on at the club. Things have quietened down a little over winter but they haven't come to a complete standstill. We have had a few things that have been happening behind the scenes and with a few of them locked in, we're now pleased to share them with everyone.
As you may be aware, for the past 18 months we have been on the lookout for a replacement for Tantabiddi. Following the EGM in December we kicked things up a notch and looked into custom builds, ready-made new and second hand. We are pleased to announce that we have secured a vessel and are currently going through the purchase of an 8m PolyRib vessel. We are currently working with the manufacturer to get it set up for club diving in order to get her ready for a busy summer of diving.
Alas it looks like we will soon be vacating Fremantle Sailing Club. We have had a long standing relationship with FSC and thank them for their hospitality, unfortunately it is time to move on and we are now in the process of finding a home for Tantabiddi / Tantabiddi2.0 (not her real name).
In response to a steady stream of course enquiries we have run several Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses over the past few months. We would like to extend a warm welcome to those new members and congratulations on your certifications.
In case you haven't heard, we have dropped the requirement for apprentice skippers to undertake the National Powerboat Handling Course and the TL3. A Recreational Skippers Ticket and a VHF Radio Ticket are the only certifications that you require on top of the clubs mentoring program to become a skipper. The more qualified and authorised skippers we have, the more often we can get the boat out! Some details on the skippers apprenticeship program are available on the club website (note that qualification requirements will be updated shortly).
Big thank you to those volunteers that have helped out through the year so far, with the new boat coming online we will likely need a bit of a hand with several items over the coming months so keep an eye out for calls for assistance. Your help is what keeps the club running so please, if you are able to help out it will be very much appreciated. If you are looking for an opportunity to help out, we are keen to get our social nights back on track and looking for people to tee up a few casual get togethers. Other events that we would like to run in the coming months, but need some support, include a coastal clean up, trips down south and a BBQ and shore dive. Touch base with one of our committee members to get involved.
Hopefully that provides a bit of a view of whats happening in the club at the moment. It may seem quiet but rest assured there are things going on in the background. If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any of the committee members.
Thanks
UWA Underwater Club Committee.
